Stay Informed: Fence Material Options for Custom Decks

Just like fences, decks can also be composed of metal, PVC, or wood. Each material has its own unique benefit and cost.

Wood is perhaps the most traditional choice. It has a great look and feel and also affords design flexibility. Wood decks are available in natural and composite materials. Nothing beats the classic beauty of natural wood, but composite decks require less maintenance and cleaning than its natural counterpart. Natural wood is also less expensive, but requires more investment down the road for maintenance and repair.

PVC decking is a unique alternative to a traditional wood deck. With a PVC deck you will not have to worry about splinters, nails, or staining. Also, some PVC materials are manufactured with a no-slip protective surface. It also has great longevity and is environmentally safe, recyclable and non-toxic. Plus, PVC is virtually maintenance free and available in different color tones.

Some people favor aluminum decking because of its unique appearance. Others choose it for its durability. Aluminum can come in different colors to compliment the style of your home and property. Wood railings and banisters can be added for a truly distinctive look. Although aluminum is the most expensive material, it will last longer than composite wood decks and has a completely different look than PVC.
